I made a new cat design:
It’s interesting how random things can inspire us.
I was playing Stardew Valley recently, and in-game you can have seeds that you can plant. One kind of seed is Fall Seeds. When you hover over it in your inventory, you can read the description: “An assortment of wild fall seeds”.
That word – assortment – stuck with me. And I thought, “What would an assortment of cats look like?” because I like drawing cats. And so I drew just that.
That’s the second design inspired by Stardew Valley. I wrote about the first one a few days ago. Maybe I should play more games as an inspiration 🙂
And here is “Assortment of Cats” on a t-shirt:
I was playing Stardew Valley and I had a cat shirt. Or so I though.
It was in fact a skull shirt. But I didn’t know that. I thought, “I am going to draw a giant cat head”. So here’s my new design:
At first, I drew it like so:
I painted it with white color only — those dark grey areas are just white pixels with very low opacity. But, as I know, those pixels would not be printed at all. There’s no point submitting a design with too many transparent pixels. That’s why I changed contrast, so only the white pixels with high opacity are left.
Did you know that when your t-shirt is selected by Threadless to be added to their catalog, you usually get a $250 coupon code? I use my coupons to buy hoodies and t-shirts for my family and friends.
If you want your design to be added to the catalog, you need to submit it to their main design challenge. Every week they select new designs. If your design doesn’t win, don’t give up. Try again. The more designs you submit, the better the odds of one of your designs being selected.
Here’s one of my recent designs:
It has just been added to the Threadless catalog. This means more people will see it and more people will buy it. And even if they don’t buy it, they might check out my other designs and find something else for themselves.
It look good on triblend blue:
My design “Act Now” has just been added to the Threadless catalog.
There’s a story behind the design. I was in a grocery store and behind me there were two guys buying beer.
- Guy 1: So how’s that postwoman of yours?
- Guy 2: …
- Guy 1: Have you talked to her?
- Guy 2: I didn’t dare … I won’t ever dare.
I was thinking about it when drawing the skull. We are all going to die, we have less time than we think. I added the flower — a symbol of romance — to say: if you hesitate, if you don’t act on your feelings, you will die alone.
“Act now” is in the Threadless catalog. Check it out here if you want. Wear it as a reminder to be brave.
This is Sangie, and she’s wearing my “Overthinking and also hungry”.
This design is part of my philosophical cat collection.
As a side note, I’ve never met a stranger wearing any of my designs. I wonder when it will happen.
Today I finally had time for some sketching. This is a silly idea that I had and I first did a quick drawing on my reMarkable tablet:
Then I inverted colors in Photoshop, so that it was a white design on a black background, and cleaned it up a bit:
And of course then uploaded it to my Threadless shop:
